What's going on?

Just a short post to update you on what's been happening on a couple of things. Hopefully I'm planning a longer blog post about something non cancer related wooohoo! Should be up in the next couple of days. The first thing I wanted to address was that I recently did a poll on twitter about what posts people wanted to see next. Blogging about how to be a good friend to someone with chronic illness was a resounding yes and I will be posting about this. However it's such an important subject and obviously no one way is 100% "the right way" so I want to make sure I handle it in the best way possible. So it won't be the next post but that's just because I'm taking my time to get it right, but it is coming!
Also you may or may not notice but my blog posts have been loading oddly for a while now. It's been really bugging me as it makes them harder to read and generally looks poor. A friend recommended the lovely people at pipdig and they have been amazing! If you need help sorting any issues with your blog or want to refresh it I can't recommend them highly enough. They've made the process so easy for me an have been extremely friendly and helpful. Check them out here. From now on the blog should be a lot cleaner to view!

Secondly little health update. The last couple of weeks have been very rough on chemo. Not to give too much information but diarrhoea is the first listed side effect on about 3 of my drugs and I've been suffering a lot with it, which is not only drainaing but makes it impossible to be able to get out for much of he week. There isn't much we can do so this will be going on for the next 6 weeks of treatment.

Me literally just woken up in recovery!

Today I was scheduled to have a repeat endoscopy to check on my varices and then chemo in the afternoon. Mum and I decided to stay in accommodation overnight Monday as I was first on the endoscopy list. We got up early and got ready. First I headed to the Marsden to get my bloods done, zoomed out and caught the bus up to Chelsea and Westminster. I was seen by my incredible doctor who has done all my endoscopes and had to break the news that the biopsy had come back cancerous back in November. It was lovely to see him again. He called me the great survivor! I was sedated and had the endoscopy, woke up in recovery, got my reports and went back on the bus to Marsden where I saw the doctor and then waited for chemo. I fell asleep several times in the clinic but otherwise was ok. There were no varices, but Unfortunately there was a small ulcer which for those of you who follow this blog may remember is what my cancer was mistaken for originally. Naturally this panicked me a bit. Biopsies were taken and now we wait to see the results. I'm hopeful that I'm monitored closely enough that if it was cancer it would have shown up somewhere but obviously it's a worry. I am pretty drained and the thought of potentially more treatment is more than I can contemplate right now.

I will let you know when I do.

So just a quick update and hopefully a longer post soon.

  3. I understand that fear all too well - I am an ovarian cancer survivor and it was originally shrugged off as just 'that time' causing the pain, or 'just a cyst'. I still panic everytime someone talks about an ovarian cyst despite the fact I know that they are common for many women... Hold your head high and try not to focus on it too much while you wait for the biopsy results (I know, easier said than done). I try to remind myself I can't do anything about it anyway, so why stress.
